Does chlorine in tap water kill good bacteria in your gut?
I always get a stomach ache when I drink tap water and the smell is noxious, I've heard that Canada and Europe have started using ozone to disinfect their water, but, as usual, American companies and municipalities only care about the bottom line, not the mustard gas that they are sending through their pipes!
Chlorine in tap water is gone the instant it hits the hydrochloric acid in your stomach. If you drink too fast, the change in temperature can cause stomach discomfort.
Europe has been using ozone as a primary disinfectant (and more) for more than 100 years in some of their cities, but they *still* use something else to keep the water safe through the distribution system.
There are many cities in the US that use ozone in primary processes in drinking water treatment. Since the bromate scare (funded perhaps by the chlorine folks), ozone is only carefully applied, since lawyers seem to be more hazardous to public health than any real possible harm to the population.
Chlorine gas is not mustard gas. And lest ye think that having nothing is better than having something you find noxious in the water, there a at least five dead children in Arizona that would disagree with you. Their well source had become contaminated, nothing was added to kill the organisms, and they got encephalitis simply by washing their little faces in tap water. "Rose Water District". And this is not the only instance.
*Something nasty* has to be in there. Nature thinks we are food.
