Our HVAC blower motor is dead?
Its a GE ECM x13 by Regal Beloit. We had it replaced back in July of 2006. My boyfriend's friend owes us some favors and he does AC work. He pulled the part out last night and told me to call the AC company who did the work back in July of 06 to see if its still under warranty. Anyone know how long the warranty is on this piece? Also since our friend (who is an HVAC Tech) will be installing and doesn't work for the same company that originally installed will this company give us any issues about warrantying the part since we wont be using them to install? If its still not under warranty will they even sell it to us without using their company for install?
Money is really tight and not even three years ago I had to pay this other company almost 1k for labor alone (all the parts were under warranty) not even 3 years ago on a unit that was only 2 years old.

It may be yet covered,but some is only a year. Something else must be wrong to cause it to go.It may be a control prob,but if motor check to see for restrictions in air flow or a capacitor if motor is that type.undersized wiring,low voltage or high voltage in home,improper ground.A thousand to replace a motor? Highway robbery.If it is a Carrier which is highly overrated they are known for control problems,and is a nightmare to track down.If warranty doesn't cover,go to a supply house that sells replacement motors and pay about half what the A/C installers charge.That GE motor should have gone 15-20 yrs or more with proper maintenance.GE is one of the best for years.Restricted air will overheat them.Ck filters and vents.
Regal Beloit selling Richmond Gear division (bizjournals)
Regal Beloit Corp., a Beloit-based manufacturer of electrical and mechanical
motors, said it has agreed to sell the assets of its Richmond Gear division to
a Chicago company for an undisclosed price. Richmond Gear manufactures and
distributes ring and pinions, transmissions and traction control devices for
the racing, high-performance and off-road aftermarkets. The deal also includes
