Proper Ways Of Maintaining And Storing Your Leatherwear

Leatherwear sure never goes out of style. It's been a fashion staple over the years. However, they can get really expensive. That's why you should know how to properly care for them, for you to enjoy them for many years. If you own some leatherwear, read on to learn how best to look after them.

Hang your leather jacket onto a wide, padded hanger. This will help maintain its form, as well as prevent creases. Never store it folded or rolled away. Before using it outside, try to apply a thin coating of protective wax. It's practically for the exact same reason why women's faces benefit from bb cream application.

Leather pants are particularly susceptible to wearing away. That's why it's important to apply your pair with a layer of protective spray. Keep them away from getting in contact with any fluids. But in any case, quickly use a dry rag or towel to dry them. Let it air dry. Never hang your pants next to a heater or under the sun to dry. Know that some stains can be permanent, like paint or ink.

Remove your leather watch when you're sweating or taking a bath. Refrain from getting the strap unnecessarily wet. Wipe off dust and light stains with a dry, clean cloth. If it's necessary to wipe it with a damp cloth, make sure you follow it with a dry one. Let it air dry and apply a thin layer of beeswax or any other conditioner you have. Olive oil will also help moisturize it and keep it shiny.

As with your leather belts, it's best to store them hanging, with buckles fastened to hooks. Rolling them up tightly or folding them is a bad idea. Every now and then, clean them with a damp cloth, then let air dry. A coating of protective wax or conditioner will help keep drying and cracking at bay.

Leather shoes look practically great with anything, but everyone knows they're expensive. That's why it's important you do everything to maintain and store them properly. They will look like new with the help of beeswax. It will make the footwear waterproof, and at the same time restore its tinge. You may also use easily purchasable shoe-shine polishes to restore their natural shine.

As with boots, it pays to know how to store them properly. For instance, your leather brown boots may develop creases or cracks with improper storing. Make sure you store them upright. Not horizontally, and definitely not with other items on top of it. Place water bottles, rolled up newspapers or any long cylindrical items inside them to make sure they stay upright.

Grinding Lathe Tools on a Belt Sander – Why and How (MAKE Magazine)

A three-part series from Mikey over at MachinistBlog.com. Mikey has been a
machinist for 15 years, and has come 'round to the belief that high-speed
steel (HSS) cutters, rather than the pricier, lower-maintenance, carbide-
tipped bits, are the way to go on a hobby-sized metalworking lathe. He also
makes a compelling argument for using a belt sander, instead of the
traditional bench grinder, for making, shaping, and sharpening HSS lathe
tools.
