3 Things to Know Before Getting a Power Drill
When searching for a power drill you must first know the 2 common types, the comparison of each, and the features to look for.
When doing home improvement measures by yourself, a power drill is one tool you cannot do without. Drills are handy tools for woodwork and metalwork and can be used for crafts, simple house repairs, and for some auto maintenance. It you don’t own one, here are some things you should know before getting a power drill.
Types of power drills
There 2 common types of power drills: the corded ones which are portable, and the cordless ones which are recheargeable. The corded power drills are need to be plugged in an electric outlet for it to be used, while the one the contains a recheargable battery pack is easy to carry and can be used almost anywhere, anytime. The corded power drill is limited to the length of the cord, while the cordless one has a limited run time while being used. In the cordless power drill, the battery pack needed to be removed from the drill and goes into the charger to replenish the energy.
Comparison on both
A cordless power drill is lighter and easier to use than the corded one and usually can take almost any task a corded drill can do. However, some tasks can only be performed using a corded power drill like drilling multiple holes with larger diameters as these requires greater power that a rechargeable battery cannot provide.
Features to look for in a power drill
Look for a cordless drill that is has about 18 volt range power source, that power is enough to perfrom any tasks. It’s also best to get a cordless drill with an extra battery pack instead of the usual one. Select also the one that has a reversible drive, it is handy when loosening and removing screws and bolts as well as removing a stucked drill bit. For corded drills, choose the one with a variable speed motor, it allows the user have much control on the speed of the drill while doing the job. This feature would enable you to start out at minimum speed so that the holes you make would not fall out of proportion, then gradually speed it up to finish the task. The best drill should have a least 1/2 inch adjustable chuck size, this can accomodate typical attachments.
The bottom line is that choose a power drill that would be handy for the type of work you usually do. For heavy tasks, get the more powerful corded drill, for simple repairs, then get the cordless counterpart.

Where can I get the proper modified drill bit to make bearing races for IKBS on knives?
I need to drill out a bearing race for IKBS on a knife, but the bit is specially modified. Does anyone know where I can get one or if i can make it?
You probably want to use a solid carbide twist drill. The piece you are drilling needs to be held securely in a vise.A milling machine would be ideal. The drill bit should be the finished size that you want.Trying to open up a hole that is already there will cause the bit to shatter.Drill with steady pressure at a high speed of around 3000 rpm.Once you start the hole don't stop until you are all the way through. If you have an air hose available it can help keep the work area cooler.
Ryan Malone latest Tampa Bay Lightning player sidelined by injury (St. Petersburg Times)
**By Joe Smith, Times Staff Writer**
Tuesday, January 3, 2012
TORONTO -- Lightning coach **Guy Boucher** has talked about how this year has
been marked with "tons of injuries, one after another."
And the latest injury, to wing **Ryan Malone**, came in an odd way.
Malone missed Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs and is day to day after
suffering an undisclosed lower body injury in a collision with C **Nate
Thompson** in Monday's practice. Malone was on the ice for Tuesday's optional
morning skate, but came off early, and did not speak with reporters. The
injury was a bit of a surprise to many, including Boucher, with the collision
appearing innocent and happening in a non-contact drill.
"It was one of the last drills," Thompson said. "Perfect timing."
It's bad timing for a team missing D **Victor Hedman** (concussion)
indefinitely; he's not on this three-game road trip. And D **Mattias Ohlund**
(knees) hasn't played all season. Missing Malone is big, considering his size
(6 feet 4, 224 pounds), and because he plays a key role in front of the net on
the power play. Rookie **J.T. Wyman **got power-play time in Malone's absence.
"Happy New Year! ...
