What brand and gauge guitar strings should i use for Playing Blues-Rock such as Jimi Hendrix and Clapton?

I one a Made In America Fender Stratocaster With 2 Tex Mex Pickups, and a Humbucker on the bottom (HSS), and so far I'm sticking with D'addario .10 gauge brights, but i was wondering if there is anyway to get more of that bluesy Stevie Ray Vaughan tone (with the Neck Pickup) while still being capable to get the crunchy AC/DC sound when you want to (with the Humbucking bridge pickup and distortion of course)
BTW Josh brought up a good point, which brand is better (for what i play) Ernie Ball or D'addario ?

Every answer before me recommends that you use enormous telephone cable gauge strings on your electric guitar. .12 gauge strings? You have to be kidding me! Try wrestling those around for a few hours. Your band-mates may think that you are the most macho dude around, but your fingers will be totally cut up - even with great callouses.

The truth is both Hendrix and Clapton used/use light gauge strings. Clapton uses .09's and Hendrix's last guitar was found with .08s on it. The reason? Light strings bend much easier without tearing up your hands. "Tone" from your strings (whatever that is) essentially disappears when your total sound is distorted - like Hendrix and Clapton.

Get D'addario .09s. They will sound great. Or, stay with your .10s if you find they are comfortable and bend easy enough for you. Ernie Balls don't hold their "new" sound as long as D'addarios do IMHO. Stick with D'addarios.

Edit: I use D'addario .08s on my 25.5 scale guitars and .09s on my 24.75 scale guitars. Many excellent players use .08s and .09s. Maybe most.

However, since SRV, who used .13s, it seems to be a point of machoness to put stupidly heavy strings on your axe. Don't fall for it, Use whatever gauge strings work for you.
